If you have dry skin, you need a foundation that will moisturize your skin while reducing imperfections such as wrinkles or redness. Therefore, you’ll need heavier textures to make your skin appear more supple and radiant.

Here are the foundation types you can use on your dry skin:

  • tinted moisturizers/creams
  • stick foundations
  • moisturizing compact foundations
  • liquid foundations

My recommendations:

On a budget: Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation

Expensive: Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin

Combination skin

Do you have combination skin? Then, you need a foundation that helps you balance your skin. Indeed, the best foundation for you will moisturize the dry zones while absorbing the excess of sebum on the T-zone.

Here are the foundation types you can use on combination skin:

  • oil-free liquid foundations, especially in summer
  • creamy foundations
  • stick foundations

My recommendations:

On a budget: L’Oréal Paris True Match Liquid Foundation

Expensive: Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation

Oily skin

If you have oily skin, you need a foundation that entirely covers your imperfections. For example, the ideal foundation must prevent your skin from shining in excess. Consequently, you must invest in an oil-free foundation that will cover your imperfections, your acne, and your enlarged pores.

Here are the foundation types you can use on oily skin:

  • oil-free compact powder
  • mineral powder
  • oil-free creamy foundations
  • oil-free liquid foundations

My recommendations:

On a budget: L’Oréal Paris Infallible Fresh Wear Foundation

Expensive: Dior Forever Matte Foundation

If it were not for my sensitive eczema-prone skin, I would wear Mac liquid foundation.  The only thing is, it makes my eyes weep.  So I don’t.

However, for those who like wearing foundation, it can definitely help a person look flawless with porcelain skin.

So what do I do instead?  I juice 2 litres of green smoothie every day to look beautiful and have glowing skin.

It works!  So far so good..

    1. Thanks for sharing Stella!

To me, a good foundation looks natural without that cakey flakey look and it mustn’t look too thick and laid on. It also mustn’t flake off or fade as the day goes on. This is probably the reason I never wear foundation anymore, rather opting for a tinted BB cream instead. I have dry skin so I am wondering if the Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation will suit me as per the requirements above?

    1. For a normal skin, you can have any foundation, but you must take heed that it’s not too oily for you. Choose a stick or a powder depending on the coverage you want!
