As you all know, beauty starts from inside. And your hair is no exception. Consequently, you must watch what you eat during the summer to have beautiful hair. Rely on protein and healthy fats to get full and healthy strands.
Also, don’t hesitate to eat foods rich in beta carotene. Indeed, as these foods prepare your skin to tan, they will also protect our skin from sun damage. Orange foods such as carrots, apricots, peaches, mangoes, sweet potatoes will become your new friends!
Summer Hair Care Tips: Moisturize your hair
Chlorine and saltwater will make your hair drier than ever. That’s why you must absolutely moisturize your strands to avoid losing moisture from your hair. If you want to combat dry and brittle hair caused by your summer activities, here are some hair care tips for you:
- drink lots of water (at least 8 glasses)
- adopt a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner
- coat your hair with a leave-in conditioner before swimming (you can also use coconut or argan oils)
- use serums and oils to seal moisture in your hair and shield your strands
Summer Hair Care Tips: Protect your hair from the sun
Like your skin, your hair is also fragile and deserves to be protected against sun damage. Consequently, your hair also needs sunscreen. Don’t forget to buy hair products containing SPF to take extra care of your hair during your summer holidays!
Moreover, another way to protect your hair is to wear hats and scarves. They will give you an extra barrier against sun damage, especially if you have color-treated hair or if you have tangles.
And if you love fashion, you will be able to make a statement with these hair accessories. So, don’t hesitate to show your personality while protecting your hair!
Summer Hair Care Tips: Adopt an adapted hair routine
To protect your hair during summertime, you need to follow a strict hair care regimen. Here are some summer hair care tips you can adopt in your routine.
Don’t overwash your hair
I know this sounds counterintuitive. But many experts say that overwashing your hair actually cause more damage because it will strip your hair from its natural oils.
Instead, wash your hair twice a week to get rid of salt and chlorine residue with a moisturizing shampoo adapted to your hair type. However, this doesn’t mean that you must skip rinsing your hair after swimming in the pool or in the sea.
Apply a repairing mask on your hairĀ
Using a repairing mask on your hair once a week will provide extra protection on your fragile strands. This will also make it less sensitive to sun, wind, and other environmental elements during summertime.
Try hot oil rinse
Do you want to add extra moisture on your hair? Then try a hot oil rinse. Shampoo your hair, then apply a penetrating oil on your ends. Let it sit during 5 minutes, rinse, and condition as usual. To do this hair rinse, you can use coconut, olive, and avocado oils as they really penetrate the hair shaft.
Avoid using heat
Hair is already fragile because of sun exposure. Therefore, you shouldn’t add extra damage with heating tools That’s why you should stay away from flat irons, curling irons and hair dryers.
However, if you must use them, try to stick to using them no more than once a week. Instead, air dry your hair more often. This is summer, people!
Try loose protective hair styles
As they tend to pull the hair, tight hair styles can damage your hair, especially if it’s dry because of the heat. Therefore, you must always opt for loose and comfortable hair styles to protect your ends. Messy buns and French braids will be your best allies during this season.

Hello Elodie! I just finished reading your article 6 Effective Summer Hair Care Tips To Protect Your Hair. And I really enjoyed reading this particular article! I do have one question after reading your article though. Are summer hair care tips only important for those who have long hair?
I ask because I’m not someone who has long hair, I have a very short pixie-style haircut. And I don’t live in a location in the world where it’s tropical, or even sub-tropical. Our temperatures here get to about 35 degrees in the summer and are more humid than dry.
I don’t swim in the summer, so there are no worries for me personally, in terms of chlorine or salt water. I don’t live anywhere near the sea either. I’m also not an outdoorsy type of person. Would these summer hair care tips still apply to someone like me?
I guess I’ve always kind of thought because I don’t have long hair, and I rarely go outdoors for any length of time, it doesn’t seem necessary for me to worry about my hair in the summer. However, I could be totally wrong about that! I’d love to get your opinion on that.

Then we must make fruits like oranges and mangoes our best friends, as you pointed out. Eating well is living well.

A persons dieat can play a big role into what his/her hair would look like.
To the swimmers out there it is important to introduce a clarifying shampoo into their regimen. This product works from the inside out clearing the follicle of any foreign substances. it’s also important to loack moisture in the hair with some steam sessions.
