I know that we’re in hustle era, where many people brag about being able to be functional after only two hours of sleep. Well, you should know that this is a bad habit, especially if you intend to get healthier hair in the long run.

Indeed, continuous sleep deprivation can lead to disturb the body ‘s ability to regenerate and to repair. And this affects your hair growth in particular. Why?

Because a good night of sleep enables your body to balance many hormones responsible for your hair growth such as cortisol, growth hormone, and melatonin. As a matter of fact, all these hormones have great influence on your hair growth and the quality of your hair:

Tip #1: Create a sleep-friendly environment

When I was old enough to talk about adult stuff, my mother used to repeat that my bedroom should be reserved only for sex and sleep. And I’m offering the same advice today. Keep your room fresh, uncluttered, and quiet to elevate your sleep.

Tip #2: Stay away from electronic device

This is a tip I’ve learnt from Lean For Life by Louise Parker. One hour before bedtime, stay away from all electronic device. Indeed, exposure to blue light can increase your difficulties to get a good night of sleep. Instead, you may read a book or count sheep!

Tip #3: Be consistent in your sleep schedule

Waking up and going to bed at the same hour will help you avoid sleep disruptions. And you must apply his during the weekends too!

One tip to be consistent is to calculate the number of sleep hours you need – many experts recommend to get between 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. For instance, let’s say you need 8 hours of sleep, and that you must wake up at 6 a.m. You will therefore go to bed at 10 p.m. to get your beauty sleep.

Personally, I opt to 7 to 8 hours of sleep. I’ve adopted that since I’ve read The Laws of Success in Sixteen Lessons by Napoleon Hill

Tip #4: Exercise often

Frequent exercise, whether it’s cardio, flexibility, or strengthening, helps you to fall asleep more easily. Moreover, you’ll stay asleep easily!

Tip #5: Relax

You may have a regular nighttime routine to signal your body that you’re going to sleep. For instance, you may have some relaxing activities: take a bath, read a book, meditate…

Tip #6: Take the right supplements

If you have trouble getting your right amount of beauty sleep, you may take some supplements. The ones I’ve tried successfully for stress relief and sleep aid are:

    Sleep is really important for our overall health.

    For me, if I don’t get enough restful sleep, for sure the following day I will be sluggish and sleepy at work, thus becoming unproductive.

    Likewise as mentioned, it will show in our skin, hair,  and nails that getting enough sleep will promote healthier skin and stronger hair and nails. 

    My question, is it good to have heavy exercise at night before going to bed? Will it not affect our capacity to go to sleep right away? Afterall, we might be so tired to fall asleep immediately.

    Thanks for the advice. As someone who suffers from chronic insomnia and has been tested by a sleep clinic who couldn’t find a physical reason, I often find myself functioning on less than the optimal number of hours sleep. Do I always feel great? No, but I do cope and I think it is now my normal. I must admit that getting to bed early enough to give me enough time in bed to get more sleep, even if it is broken does help.

    I also knew that getting a good nights sleep will improve your skin. But I didn’t realise how important sleep was for healthy hair and nails as well. How many hours of sleep should one get on a regular basis to ensure your “beauty sleep”? Would six to seven hours per night be sufficient?
